College’s ‘Bias Response Team’ Ripped Down Speech They Didn’t Like — Trump’s DOJ Drops the Hammer
Bias Reporting Systems
According to a DOJ press release, Speech First, a national organization dedicated to defending civil liberties, claims the university has unlawfully punished students for speech protected by the First and Fourteenth Amendments.
According to The Washington Times, the DOJ wrote in a statement of interest that the university has “imposed a system of arbitrary censorship of, and punishment for, constitutionally protected speech.”
A press release by the DOJ also states:
Speech First alleges that the University of Michigan’s policies on “harassment,” “bullying,” and “bias” are so vague and overbroad as to prompt students to limit their speech out of fear that they might be subject to disciplinary sanction, including “individual education” or “restorative justice” at the hands of the University’s Bias Response Team.
